The Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, first of its
kind in the entire North East and fourteenth amongst the Open
universities in India was established by the Assam Legislative
Assembly by an Act (XXXVII of 2005) in 1995. The Act received
the assent from the Governor on 7th September, 2005. The headquarter
of the University is Guwahati and its jurisdiction covers the
whole of the state of Assam and beyond, as may be necessary, for
the purpose of extending distance education.

Programme : The KKH State Open University has decided to launch
a Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme (BPP) for the aspiring learners
who have attained the age of 18 years but lack any formal educational
background and desires to pursue a Bachelor’s programmes. This
programme aims at providing an opportunity to those learners
who for various reasons could not complete their 10+2 standard
examination and still have a strong desire to pursue higher
education.
