University was established on April 30, 1962 in the erstwhile princely state of Patiala with the main objective of furthering the cause of Punjabi language, art and literature. The Punjabi University is located in the erstwhile princely city of Patiala, in the south-east of Punjab. The Punjabi University takes pride in the achievement of Five Star status awarded by the NAAC, an autonomous body of the UGC after a thorough evaluation of various research projects undertaken and in the pipeline.
