Mumbai University Distance Learninghttp://www.mu.ac.in/Distance Education is a distinct approach to impart education to learners who are removed in space and / or time from the teachers or the teaching institution. A need for such an approach was felt by the University of Mumbai and hence it established the Directorate of Correspondence Courses in the year 1971-72 which was designated as Directorate of Distance Education in the year 1985 The post of full time Director was created in the grade of Professor. Consequent upon the upgradation, the jurisdiction of the Directorate of Distance Education was extended. Any Indian citizen residing in India is permitted to register for the available courses with the Directorate. Since the U.G.C. had been , time and again , recommending that the CCIs be upgraded and be allowed to enjoy certain amount of autonomy and flexibility in its functioning, in the year 1993, the Directorate of Distance Education was upgraded as Institute of Distance Education ' It thus acquired a status as a University Institution. The program accommodates the needs of both full-time and part-time students as well as online learners by using a variety of delivery modes including in-person on-site sessions like the latest synchronous and asynchronous online learning technology, and a possible future video conferencing. Students can participate in the educational programs even if they do not live near the University campus. Each program can be taken entirely online. Study Centres: University may decide on the available study centers for personal contact programs. However the overall responsibility and monitoring will be with the University of Mumbai. Program III: M. Sc. Computer Science Objectives: This
program is to impart knowledge and training in the recent advancements
and modern trends in the field of Computer Science. Eligibility: Same as the regular program in M Sc Computer Science. Program IV: B.Sc. (Computer Science)Objectives: The
aim of this program is to develop working knowledge about computers and
impart skills to use the computers effectively in developing commercial
and scientific applications.
