SCDL
was born in 1994 as a “Correspondence Section” of Symbiosis Institute
of Management Studies (SIMS) for Defence Personnel and their dependents.
In
the year 2001, SCDL was established as a separate institute offering
courses through the medium of distance education, providing an opportunity
to thousands of students to enhance their careers and lives. The
vision of SCDL is to create a “World Campus” where any one is able
to learn and achieve their dreams for higher education and enhanced
career. The mission of SCDL is to provide every student with a means
for “Self-paced, Self-styled learning” anywhere, anytime. SCDL has
grown exponentially in the last four years attracting students from
all states of India and from more than 20 foreign countries.
Today,
SCDL has an active student strength of over 60,000. SCDL has been introducing
new courses each year and establishing facilities, services and technologies to
assist the student community. In the past 3 years, SCDL has gained tremendous
popularity not only amongst fresh graduates seeking higher education but also
amongst working professionals from the corporate and administrative sectors. The
emphasis on improving the quality of education and students services has been

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE MANAGEMENT
(PGDIM) -
The curriculum has been designed and developed in collaboration with New India
Insurance and expert faculty in this field. Students will get inputs on general
management subjects like Principles and Practices of Management. The program covers
the practice of general insurance, various laws and legalities of the business,
associated risks and management of these risks and personal insurance. Duration

Symbiosis
is a term in life science, meaning ‘living together of two different organism,
for the benefit of each other'. Dr. Mujumdar, himself a professor of botany, thought
this name apt for the institution. Thus the institution was founded to alleviate
the problems faced by foreign students coming to India. At the time, these problems
included - accommodation, meals, medical care, guidance, coaching, information
about the city, etc. Symbiosis has come a long way since then. Today it is home
to students from more than 60 different countries. These students are offered
