Aspen
University was an early pioneer in online
education. In fact Aspen was the first University
to offer a 100% online MBA program - back
in 1987. Since then Aspen University has
taught over 4000 students, bringing classes
to learners via the internet.
Aspen
University grew from the International Academy
created in the 1960s to improve the way
information was disseminated. During the
next two decades the academy distinguished
itself as an exceptional provider of premium
education in information management. In
1982, the academy established the Information
Institute to help people adapt to and make
full use of all the emerging information
technologies. The institute became keenly
focused on meeting the needs of the workforce,
sponsoring conferences and conducting extensive
research to broaden the world's understanding
of information-related topics such as appropriate
uses and effective management of information.
Much
of the institute's research landed into
two books: Education for Information Management
(1983, E.H. Boehm and M.K. Buckland, eds.)
and Intellectual Foundations for Information
Professionals (1987, H. Achleitner, ed.)
These two books uncovered an emerging market
for education that would lead to the birth
of ISIM University. That market was formed
with the alliance of technology and business.
Information systems professionals and business
managers were becoming inseparable partners
in a burgeoning economy based primarily
on information. It became apparent that
those who understood the management of business
and information and related technologies
would solidify their place in the 21st century's
workforce. In 2003 ISIM University changed
its name to Aspen University.
Aspen
University now offers programs in information
and technology management, information systems,
business, project management, criminal justice
and nursing.
