Alagappa University is located in Karaikudi. DEC gave Programme-wise Post facto recognition in 2007 - 08 for conducting distance education courses. In 2012-13 Alagappa University has got Programme-wise Regular Recognition from DEC for B.A, M.A, B.Com, M.Com, BBA, MBA, BCA, MCA, B.Sc, M.Sc, Diploma, BLISc, MLISc, PG Diploma and Certificate Courses. The Directorate of Distance Education was established in the University in 1992. The Directorate is planning to adopt the e-technologies in order to modernize the learning process so that the students can have direct access to internet facilities. Courses - The Directorate offers 57 academic programmes in the field of Arts (B.A & M.A), Science (B.Sc & M.Sc), Information Technology, Education, Management, Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) and Vocational (Diploma, Certificate & PG Diploma) courses through distance learning.
Methodology - MBA, MCA and PGDCA are offered under Semester Pattern and other courses are under Non-Semester Pattern. Courses are offered both in English and Tamil Medium.
Study Centres - The Distance Education programmes are also offered in South-East Asian and in Middle-East countries. It has network of more than 206 Study Centres. Alagappa University has study centres in Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Pondicherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Personal Contact Programmes - PCP and Practical classes for all Science Programme are conducted only at Alagappa University Campus, Karaikudi. Candidates that enroll directly with the University have to attend the Contact Classes and Examinations at Karaikudi only. Candidates that enroll through Study Centres will get the Course Materials and facility to attend the Contact Classes at the Study Centres. Selection - Admission to courses are made through Merit of qualifying examination or availability of seats in the study centre.
Application Procedure - Last date for issue and receipt of applications is 15 March and academic year starts from 15 October. Application and Prospectus can be obtained from University or learning centre or downloaded from website. Two Demand Drafts for fees should be submitted to the Study Centre along with the filled-in Application for admission.
Fees - All the fees must be paid through two Demand Drafts separately towards Course Fees issued in favour of "The Director, DDE, Alagappa University" payable at Karaikudi and other one in favour of the Study Centre concerned through whom the candidate seeks admission. Students are advised to retain a copy of Demand Drafts for future records.
