The Pondicherry University was established in October 1985 by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament. Being a Central University it is fully supported by the UGC. Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) wasestablished in the academic year 1995-96.

Courses - DDE, Pondicherry University offers courses in MBA (Marketing, Finance, International Business and Human Resource Management), M.Com in Finance, M.A (Tamil, English, Hindi and Sociology) and MCA through distance learning.

Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, home assignments and compulsory personal contact programmes. Study materials for first semester would be sent to the students before the commencement of PCP classes. At the end of every Personal Contact Programme, the students will be asked to evaluate and give a feed back on the Programme conducted so that an objective assessment of the programmes is made. Examinations are conducted in pre-fixed months (June and December) twice in a year at 28 centrs across the country. 80% of attendance in contact classes is a must for a student to take examination. The medium of instruction for all programmes is English only. The MBA programmes are run on semester pattern. The Academic year of the Directorate of Distance Education is from July to June.

Personal Contact Programmes are held in these centres, and are conducted regularly and systematically for all the programmes.

Selection - Admission to courses of DDE, Pondicherry University has On-line Admission facility. There is no entrance test for MBA Courses. Admission is Open to all qualified students. No Transfer/ Migration Certificate is required.

Application Procedure - The Application Form and Information Brochure can be had from The Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University, Puducherry–605014 in person on free of cost (or) can be downloaded from web site. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of “The Finance Officer, Pondicherry University, Puducherry” payable at Puducherry. Completed form after enclosing required documents should be sent only through Registered post in water-proof covers to The Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University. No spot admission centre is authorized to admit student on behalf of DDE.

Fees - Fee can be paid in any of the branches of the Punjab National Bank by means of Electronic Transfer/ Telegraphic Transfer for direct credit to Punjab National Bank, Pondicherry Account No.2928002101803781, DDE, Pondicherry University. Other Banks accepting fees are State Bank of Mysore, Puducherry - A/c No - 5401000050155 and Axis Bank, Puducherry - A/c No - 209010100047931. The details regarding the Name of the candidate, Application number, Enrollment number, Course Name, Nature of fee should be clearly indicated in the copy of Challan or on the backside of the Demand Draft to be sent to the Directorate so as to ensure proper accounting in the data Base.
