DDE, Punjabi University campus is located in Patiala on Patiala - Chandigarh road. DDE offers UG, PG, Certificate, PG Diploma and Diploma courses. Punjabi University got DEC Regular Recognition from 2010-11 for conducting M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, M.Lib, MBA, B.A, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Lib, PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate courses through distance education. Punjabi University Patiala, was established on 30th April, 1962 under the Punjab Act No. 35. The Department of Distance Education was established in 1968. Student’s enrolment in the Department is as high as ten to twelve thousand every year. Courses - University offers courses in M.Sc (Information Technology), Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com), Diploma (Library Science, HIV/AIDS counseling, Gurmat Sangeet and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies), Certificate (French, German, Spoken English, Computer Applications and Sri Guru Granth Sahib), PG Diploma (Journalism & Mass Communication, Computer Applications, Translation, Insurance Business and Forensic Science) and Professional (MBA, BCA, B.Lib, M.Lib, BBA, B.ed and M.ed) through distance learning.
Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, home assignments and arranging of personal contact programmes. Study lessons are written by eminent scholars. They are supplied to the students regularly and are supplemented by video lessons for post-graduate students. Evaluation of Response-Sheets / Projects is done regularly submitted by the students. Personal Contact Programmes provides intensive classroom instructions, discussions and personal guidance to the students. Medium of Instruction is Punjabi (Gurmukhi Script) or English.
Note - Internal assessment for Post Graduate Courses has been introduced. Students will be sent a proforma along with a list of questions (Response Sheet) for each paper separately. These will be evaluated for internal assessment in each paper. Each paper will consist of 20% internal and 80% external marks. Students offering courses which have practicals or are professional courses must attend PCP classes. Students who are unable to complete these lectures will not be eligible to sit in the annual examination. Study Centres - It has study centres in Gujarat and Punjab. Library-cum-Study Centres are established by the Department at (1) Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda, (1) Government Barjindra College, Faridkot, (2) S.D. College, Barnala, (3) Desh Bhagat College, Bardwal (Dhuri), (4) Gurmat Sagar Trust, Village Sahota, Sri Anandpur Sahib, and (5) Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Ahmedabad (Gujrat).
Selection - Admission to courses are made according to eligibility for that course. The admission in M.Ed and B.Ed is through an entrance test. Admission is done through merit-cum-counseling for M.Lib, B.Lib. and D.Lib.
Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Website. Admission Forms marked ‘A’, ‘A1’, ‘A2’ and ‘A3’ duly completed must be submitted along with full fee in one instalment. The candidate may fill the Form either in Punjabi or English in his/her own handwriting. The complete Admission Form may be mailed to the Head, Department of Distance Education, Punjabi, University, Patiala-147002, under registered cover. On the envelope, it should be clearly written, “Application for Admission to (Course Name)”. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of Registrar, Punjabi University, Patiala.
