CDE, Shivaji University is located in Kolhapur. It offers UG, PG and PG Diploma courses. Shivaji University got provisional recognition from DEC in 2007 - 08 for conducting distance education courses.
Centre for Distance Education, Shivaji University, Kolhapur was established with aid of the DEC-IGNOU and Shivaji University grants. It is currently catering to the needs of over 42,000 students. In August 2007 the Centre for Distance Education came into being as an independent Unit with the appointment of the Director and Deputy Director. CDE has shifted to its newly constructed building in the University campus, Kolhapur on 19th August 2010.
Courses - CDE offers courses in M.Sc (Mathematics), M.A (Economics, English, Hindi, History, Jainology, Marathi, Political Science, Public Administration and Sociology), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) , PG Diploma (Actuarial Science, Business Entrepreneurship Development and Mass Communication Education) and Professional (MBA, Executive MBA and Master of Valuation (Real Estate)) through distance learning.
Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided self instructional study material, assignments and personal contact programmes. Medium of instruction is English and Marathi.
Study Centres - 20 U.G and 7 P.G Study Centres have become operational for providing services to distance learners like admissions, distribution of SIM, contact sessions, counseling, library facilities etc. The U.G. Study Centres are situated in the affiliated colleges within the jurisdiction of Shivaji University. The P.G. Study Centres are operating in the 3 P.G. Departments of the University, and 4 affiliated institution in Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara.
Selection - Admission to courses are made through Merit. The CDE also conducts Entrance Test for some P.G courses.
Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. Online admission forms can be filled in by students. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of The Director, Centre for Distance Education, Shivaji University payable at Kolhapur. Completed form after enclosing required documents can be submitted to University (in person or post) or Study Centre. Students submitting online admission forms, should sent print out of that form to University.
