UPRTOU, Allahabd was established under Act No. 10/1999 passed by UP Legislature. The degrees, diplomas and other programmes offerd by the university are dully recognised by joint committee of UGC, AICTE and DEC.

Courses - University presently the university offers more than 90 programmes. They are in Science (B.Sc & M.Sc), Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) , Vocational (Awareness, Diploma, Certificate & PG Diploma) and Professional (BBA, BCA, B.LI.Sc, BJMC, B.ed, MBA, MCA, M.LI.Sc and MJMC) through distance learning. Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, home assignments and arranging of personal contact programmes in study centres.

Study Centres - UPRTOU has its head quarter located at Allahabad and network of five regional centres. It has more than 400 study centres across the state of Uttar Pradesh for conducting PCP classes. Student Main Contact Centre is at 12/12 Kamla Nehru Road, Allahabad (0532 - 2407890, 2407510). Four other Regional Centres are Lucknow (0522-2812875), Bareilly (0581-2567482), Gorakhpur (0551-2200330) and Varanasi (0542-2222154).

Selection - Admission to courses are made through Merit of qualifying exam. There is entrance exam for MBA (MAT-RTOU). It will be held at following centres - (1) UPRTOU, Academic Campus, Shantipuram, (2) National PG College, Lucknow, (3) Harishchand PG College, Varanasi and (4) Government PG College, Noida.

Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of Finance officer, UPRTOU payable at Allahabad . Completed form after enclosing documents, can be submitted to University or Regional Centre, by Post or in-person. After verification, student's enrollment and roll number are generated ans sent to regional and study centre.
