SDE, Calicut University is located in Thenhipalam, 23 Kilometers south of Kozhikode city. It offers 16 graduate, 13 postgraduate and two diploma courses. Calicut University got provisional recognition from DEC in 2007 - 08 for conducting distance education courses.

The University of Calicut, the second university to be set up in Kerala, came into being in 1968. School of Distance Education, was established in 1981. About 30,000 students enrol for the programmes of the SDE, Calicut University.

Courses - University offers courses in Science (B.Sc & M.Sc), Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) and Professional (BBA, B.Li.Sc, BMMC and Bachelor in Psychology) through distance learning. The University of Calicut launches through its School of distance Education Four Semester MBA Programme in 2012.

 

Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, assignments and personal contact programmes. Study materials will be supplied only for courses offered by the SDE, having enrolment of 50 or more students. Syllabus and text books for the distance courses offered by the SDE, shall be the same as those for the courses conducted by the colleges affiliated to the University of Calicut. A library has been developed in the School for reference purposes of the students of the SDE. The examination for the students of the School of Distance Education will be conducted by the Controller of Examinations, University of Calicut. The date of examination will be published in the newspapers as soon as the dates are fixed by the University.

 

Study Centres - It has study centres in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Personal Contact Programmes are held in these centres. MBA Candidates who belong to Kerala shall be attached to any of the 5 University MBA centres, ie SMS Thrissur, SMS Palakkad, SMS Kozhikode, SMS Kuttipuram, SMS Vadakara and at the Department of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Calicut, in addition to a centre at Thiruvananthapuram for academic administration, contact classes, project work, library facilities, etc. MBA candidates should attend at least a minimum of 50 % of the number of contact classes actually conducted in a semester to be eligible for appearing for university examination of that semester.

 

Selection - Admission to courses are made through Merit and eligibility qualification required for that course. The admission to MBA distance programme shall be made on the basis of an Entrance Examination called CUMAT(SDE) conducted by the University. Every student will be allotted with an enrolment number on admission to the School of Distance Education.

 

Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of "the Finance Officer, University of Calicut" payable at S.B.T. Thenhipalam. Completed form after enclosing required documents and draft can be sent by post to University address. The School has approved 18 educational institutions in different States of India to enroll students for various courses offered by the School.
